Telling Our Stories
“Telling Our Stories” is a multi-media initiative to preserve and share the stories of our historically Black congregations in the words and voices of the members themselves. As a backdrop and companion for these recorded stories, six traveling panels have been produced to trace major historical developments and important figures in the story of our historically Black churches and institutions here in the Diocese of North Carolina. The Rev. Kathleen Walker, our canon missioner for Black Ministries, is overseeing “Telling Our Stories,” which is funded by a gift from the Office of the Dean and President of Virginia Theological Seminary, the Very Rev. Ian S. Markham. The diocesan team which produced the text, images and design for the six panels includes our historiographer the Rev. Dr. Brooks Graebner, diocesan archivist Lynn Hoke and communications coordinator, Summerlee Walter. The six roll-up panels, which are displayed back-to-back on three floor stands, are now available for exhibiting at churches and events throughout the diocese. Please email the Rev. Kathy Walker or call her at 919-600-5317 to make arrangements.
