Meet St. Stephen's, Winston-Salem
By St. Stephen's, Winston-Salem
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church was founded in Winston-Salem in 1909. We as a faith community have a lot to be thankful for. We are thankful to God for His presence and blessings on us for all the work accomplished by the hard-working parishioners whose sacrifices and contributions in various forms helped us to maintain the rich history of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
Our Episcopal Church Women of St. Stephen’s are very active in the community. Today we are continuing the work that was handed down all those years ago. We provide an annual Seniors and Grandparents Night Out, work with the County Health Department on their Baby Love Project, provide meals at St. Timothy’s Overflow Shelter, hold a Fall Festival every year that enables us to donate funds to local charities and provide meals during the Advent and Lenten lessons.
Our education of the community consists of the Advent and Lenten lessons that utilizes the resources within the community to share their individual experiences with God’s grace. For the younger people, our Vacation Bible School offers a vast array of choices within the lessons. Father Sintim’s Bible Study is unique in that each participant is allowed to give their own perspective on the scripture studied, and the discussions are in depth. We will be starting a new activity; a Prayer Breakfast, for those of our members who work during the week and on Sundays.
Our activities in the community include our CROP Walk for Hunger Team. They are a group of dedicated ladies who have been participating in the walk since its inception. Our choir members participate in choral groups throughout the community. The Bi-Annual Black Theatre Festival is one of our volunteer duties. It is amazing how many new people we meet and greet. As we step further into the millennium, our pledge is to ensure that each person who enters our doors leave encouraged, educated, empowered and equipped to assist us with becoming a beloved community!
