Meet Christ Church, Charlotte
Everyone needs a home: a place to feel known and loved, to find support during life’s challenges and to discover a greater purpose. Christ Church, Charlotte, is a spiritual home for anyone seeking a closer relationship with God and others. We are a welcoming community in which to worship, grow and serve in the name of Christ.
In 2020, a world in crisis called us into new ways of being the church. We continued doing what we’ve always done--worshipping, praying, learning, supporting one another and loving our neighbors--but creatively reimagined, with a lot of flexibility, patience and love. Our doors were closed, but the church was very much OPEN.
Jesus is our savior, but we were also saved by technology this year! From livestreaming to iPhone videos, Zoom and social media, we stayed connected in worship and small groups, and we provided inspiring and informative content for adults and children via our website and the new Christ Church Charlotte app.
The remarkable generosity of our parish enabled an outpouring of care for others, including a massive food drive, a mask ministry and care partnerships with those who were isolated. Our commitment to racial justice and reconciliation was strengthened as we witnessed the pain of our sisters and brothers of color.
People longing to be back on our campus showed up for several drive-through events with great joy, including Parish Day, Trunk-or-Treat and a live nativity during Advent. We worshiped on the lawn when weather and COVID-19 rates permitted. On Good Friday, families participated in Stations of the Cross outdoors, aided by audio recordings for each station available on our app. Christmas Eve and Easter pilgrimages provided opportunities to visit the sanctuary, beautifully decorated and filled with music. Some of these creative new events will surely become beloved traditions.
After a year of pre-recorded worship services broadcast on Sundays, in April 2021 we began reopening the doors for Sunday worship in person by registration, with live broadcasting from the sanctuary.
Transformed by our collective experience and trusting in God’s promises, Christ Church will emerge from the pandemic in ways yet to be imagined. We will use what we have learned to forge new paths and enrich our sacred traditions, and we invite you to join us on the journey.
