The Third (and Last) Cycle of the Journey to Racial Equity Begins Sept. 14
REGISTER FOR THE JOURNEY TO RACIAL EQUITY
Almost 900 people took part in the first two sessions of "The Journey to Racial Equity," a three-part series offered by the Diocesan Racial Justice and Reconciliation Committee (RJRC). The response in both cases was overwhelmingly positive, often accompanied by the question of when it was to be offered again. The answer is: the third and last offering of this impactful series begins September 14.
"The Journey to Racial Equity" is comprised of three parts: a webinar with Debby Irving, author of Waking Up White; a 21-Day Challenge intended to go deeper into one's understanding of racial equity and build new habits; and a webinar with Bishop William Barber, II, the president and senior lecturer of Repairers of the Breach.
The journey begins September 14 at 7p.m. with a webinar led by Debby Irving, who shares and explores her story of waking up to discover the racial divide in our nation.
The 21-Day Challenge takes place September 19 - October 10. Those who register for the webinar components of the series will be sent once per week the daily activities for the week ahead. To help participants reflect on what they discover, during the 21-Day Challenge segment of the series, members of the RJRC host weekly Zoom conversations to help participants connect with one another on the topics covered in the previous week and ways those topics affect our communities and even our churches.
The series session culminates with a final webinar on October 19 at 7p.m. with Bishop William Barber, II, exploring the theology of justice and the effects of racism in our communities. Note the new date.
Those wishing to participate in "The Journey to Racial Equity: Session 2" can register for both webinars at once (one registration will take of registering you for both webinars). Those who register for the webinars will automatically receive the 21-Day Challenge.
Recordings of the webinars are not available to the public, so if you want to hear these two powerful speakers, be sure to register!
Participation in an activity like this helps us to discover how racial and social injustice impact our communities, to connect with one another, and to identify ways to dismantle racism and other forms of discrimination. This is a last-chance and exciting opportunity to dive deep into racial equity and social justice. We hope you will take the journey with us!
