Diocese of North Carolina Announces Lynn Buggage as New Regional Canon to the East Region
The Diocese of North Carolina announces today that Lynn Buggage will soon join the staff as the new regional canon to the east region.
A native of New Orleans, Buggage comes to the diocese from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she most recently served as the canon for administration at the Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral, a multi-faceted center of faith and the liturgical home of the Diocese of Pennsylvania, the third-oldest diocese of The Episcopal Church. She holds a Master of Science in Church Management from Villanova University and has a proven history of achievement in operations leadership, financial management and cooperative collaboration, both within the church and in previous calls in the nonprofit sector.
“We look forward to welcoming Lynn as a member of our team,” said the Rt. Rev. Sam Rodman, bishop of the Diocese of North Carolina. “Her breadth and depth of experience in church leadership coupled with her passion for the gospel and congregational mission make her a wonderful choice to support our churches in the east. Her enthusiasm is contagious. She brings a prayerful heart and a strategic mind to this vital work.”
As regional canon, Buggage will serve on the diocesan Congregational Vitality team alongside fellow canon missioners and report to Canon Catherine Massey, canon to the bishops. As her position’s title suggests, Buggage’s primary focus will be on walking with congregations in the eastern region of the diocese, providing peer coaching and servant leadership skills to empower and support congregations in their ongoing journeys and discernment of mission and ministry. She will provide coaching and support to clergy and lay leaders, cultivating relationships and collaborative opportunities both to maximize congregational gifts and strengths, and to connect their work to diocesan missional priorities.
“After a thoughtful and prayerful discernment period, with the help of our hiring committee and input from our canon missioner team, I’m thrilled that Lynn will be joining us to help serve our congregations in the east,” said Massey. “Lynn is a servant leader who will bring a depth of experience both inside and outside the church to North Carolina. We can’t wait for her to get started!”
Buggage begins her tenure February 1, 2025.
