Bishops of the Diocese of North Carolina Respond to Recent Violence Against Asian Americans
As The Episcopal Church speaks out to end racism against those of Asian American descent (ENS: https://bit.ly/395E6Wv), the Rt. Rev. Sam Rodman and the Rt. Rev. Anne Hodges-Copple add their voices to the call to stand against injustice and acts that cause harm:
"We stand in solidarity with the Asian American Pacific Islander community in calling out the recent violence that has escalated to tragic proportion. All acts of oppression, whether loss of life or bigoted statements, are inconsistent with Christian principles and basic human dignity. When our siblings are attacked, when hatred goes unaddressed, the whole human family suffers. We pray especially for the victims and families of the shootings in Atlanta, acknowledging their grievous losses and our own commitment, with God’s help, to justice, steadfast love and an end to structures that protect white supremacy. We call upon all Episcopalians, all people of any faith, and all Americans to join us, not just in words but in acts of radical love to defeat this virus of hatred and its devastating effects."
