The Diocese of North Carolina announces with excitement today the Rev. Jeff Jackson as the new regional canon missioner to the western region.

Jackson comes to the diocese with deep experience in collaborative leadership and administration, guiding and building ministry both within and outside church walls. In his current position as rector of St. Margaret’s in Carrollton, Georgia, he led a parish-wide revitalization that included the launch of new ministries and deepened support of lay leaders. He has served The Episcopal Church at every level, from parish leader to convocational dean to General Convention deputy. Jackson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion & Philosophy from Berry College and a Master of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary, and he has created a track record of identifying ministry opportunities, building relationships, resource development, pastoral care and spiritual direction, and Christian formation and youth engagement.

“We are excited to welcome Jeff and his family,” said Bishop Sam Rodman, bishop of the Diocese of North Carolina. “I am impressed with Jeff’s passion and commitment to congregational life, to shared leadership among clergy and lay leaders, and his embrace of new ways of forming and shaping congregations for evangelism and discipleship. It will be a joy to have Jeff join our staff to serve the churches and people of our diocese.”

As regional canon missioner to the western region of the diocese, Jackson will serve on the diocesan Congregational Vitality team alongside fellow canon missioners and report to Canon Catherine Massey, canon to the bishop. As the position’s title suggests, Jackson’s primary focus will be on walking with congregations in the western region of the diocese, helping congregations to identify and maximize their gifts. He will do so through peer coaching and skill development to empower and support congregations in their ongoing journeys and discernment of mission and ministry; cultivating relationships; and identifying collaborative opportunities.

“It was a pleasure to work with the hiring committee on behalf of our bishops to discern with the many talented candidates interested in this position,” said Massey. “We’re looking forward to Jeff joining our team and bringing his gifts to walk alongside our congregations as we continue to build beloved community.”

Jackson begins his tenure in mid-June.
