Creation Care: Devotional Almsgiving Resources
"Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food? We saw you thirsty and gave you something to drink? We saw you a stranger and welcomed you? We saw you sick and took care of you?
We saw you in prison and visited you? ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’ "—Matthew 25: 37-40 (NRSV)
"Prayer with fasting is good, but better than both is almsgiving with righteousness. A little with righteousness is better than wealth with wrongdoing. It is better to give alms than to lay up gold. For almsgiving saves from death and purges away every sin." (Tobit 12:8-9 NRSV)
"But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you." (Matthew 6:3-4 NRSV)
