The Diocese of North Carolina has called Barbara Kwiatek as the discipleship program coordinator to plan, coordinate and administer programs as well as manage relationships that help diocesan staff walk alongside congregations in their disciple-making strategies.
Kwiatek joins diocesan staff from St. John’s, Wake Forest, where she has served as the ministry coordinator since 2014. In that capacity, Kwiatek supported the church’s mission through coordinating parish operations, communications, worship, stewardship, pastoral care and special events.
Prior to her service at St. John’s, Kwiatek worked in corporate human resources, benefits and training.
Kwiatek will be a member of the diocesan staff’s four-person discipleship team and will report to the Rev. Kelly Ryan, canon missioner for discipleship. Bishop Jennifer Brooke-Davidson provides the strategic direction and vision for the discipleship team, whose purpose is to equip and empower congregations to form disciples of all ages who know, love and follow Jesus with joy and work, in community and with God’s help, to co-create the Kingdom of God.
“Bishop Jennifer and I are eager for Barbara to join our team,” Ryan said. “Barbara has extensive experience in project management, communications, training, and building systems to maintain relationships and ensure excellent and missionally aligned ministry. Her problem-solving skills, attention to detail and collaborative spirit will strengthen our capacity to live into our diocese’s discipleship mission priority.”
As discipleship program coordinator, Kwiatek will serve as a key member of a team that works collaboratively to develop and lead excellent experiences of hospitality marked by intention and creativity. She will develop standard processes for programs, including registration and evaluation, support for participants, and coordination with speakers and facilities. She will also develop and maintain our database, oversee discipleship communications activities and guide our diocese’s Safe Church programming.
Kwiatek has a Bachelor of Science in Sociology, with a concentration in human resources, from William Patterson University in New Jersey.
Kwiatek will begin her ministry on diocesan staff on August 10.
