Diocese of North Carolina Welcomes Jeremy Clos as Missioner for Adult Discipleship

Jul 14, 2026 | Adult Formation, Formation

The Diocese of North Carolina has called Jeremy Clos as the missioner for adult discipleship. He will accompany congregational leaders as they seek to deepen and strengthen their journeys of discipleship and vocational discernment.

Clos joins diocesan staff from Church of the Nativity in Raleigh, where he has served as lay associate for Christian formation for the past three years. In that capacity, he has led creative and comprehensive strategies to support the faith development of children, youth and adults. His ministry includes supporting all ages to participate fully in the liturgy, and he has recently been part of Nativity’s leadership team in the diocese’s Let the Children Come initiative to encourage congregations to experiment with intergenerational worship and prayer.

Clos, who has a background in theatre and costume design, is an Education for Ministry (EfM) mentor and has experience serving as a lay preacher and designing pilgrimage experiences. He helped launch and guide the initial formation program at the Beloved Community at The Trees in Durham, a missional initiative of the diocese to especially serve those who have been othered or harmed by the church.

Clos will be a member of the diocesan staff’s four-person discipleship team and will report to the Rev. Kelly Ryan, canon missioner for discipleship. Bishop Jennifer Brooke-Davidson provides the strategic direction and vision for the discipleship team, whose purpose is to equip and empower congregations to form disciples of all ages who know, love and follow Jesus with joy and work, in community and with God’s help, to co-create the Kingdom of God.

“Bishop Jennifer and I are delighted that Jeremy is joining our team and offering his many gifts to the congregations in our diocese,” Ryan said. “Jeremy is a spiritually grounded, curious, collaborative, thoughtful and innovative leader whose experience leading a congregational disciple-making strategy has prepared him well to accompany lay and ordained leaders.”

As missioner for adult discipleship, Clos will accompany congregational leaders to equip and empower their ministry with adults; support congregations in developing and leading disciple-making strategies with clear goals; curate resources; and develop communities of practice and support among formation leaders. He will support racial justice programming, play a leading role in the deacon formation process, and oversee the diocese’s Education for Ministry and Cursillo programs.

Clos has a Bachelor of Arts degree in religious studies from North Carolina State University. He also has a certificate in youth and theology from Princeton Theological Seminary and has completed coursework in Elizabethan history through the UVA Seminar at Trinity College in the United Kingdom.

Clos will begin his ministry on diocesan staff on August 10.
