Summer: hot days, loads of sun, beach or pool time, time to relax, time to recharge. Summer is also often a time of absence in youth programs; we go on hiatus, perhaps experience a mission component, spend a lot of time planning for the next program year, and occasionally see our youth at church. If your rhythm is to cease all programming, how about adding in a few fun (one a month or every few weeks) and relationship-building activities during the summer months to keep and grow your community? Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Water day activities
- Movie night outside
- Fire pit with singing, s’mores and compline
- Hike or bike trip
- Canoeing, kayaking or lake day
- Lunch out (maybe after a VBS volunteer day)
- Ice cream/milkshake social
- Book study
- Labyrinth walk
- Local baseball game outing
- Game night
Please let the discipleship team know about your summer adventures and send us photos. We’d love to know what you’re up to during the “off season.”
